Happy Christmas-John Lennon

Every year it seems I have a new favorite Christmas song. Most of them are classics and not something new for the year, but just something that really hits me in some way that particular Christmas season. This year I have two of them.

This year it's Happy Christmas by John Lennon and a new song by Richard Marx (which I'll try to blog about later)
HAPPY CHRISTMAS
So this is Christmas

And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
It really rang out to me when I first heard it on the radio this season. "What have you done? Another year older and a new one just begun".  What HAVE I done this year? I've done the big things like graduate and move back to Michigan, but what I have done to change the world around me, to help my community, to make the world a better place. How is this Christmas any different than last Christmas. We get so caught in the rut of life that we live day to day, never thinking about the future, those around us or how WE can make a difference.

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong

This is especially fitting after the horrific events that happened yesterday in Connecticut. So many school children lost their lives at the hands of a madman! This isn't supposed to happen, let alone at Christmas time. This is the type of things we expect in other countries, not here in the US. The fear that these children felt must have been overwhelming. The families that have lost their loved ones at this time of the year. The world really is so wrong. :(

And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight
And the the song pretty much just repeats. As we face the coming of Christmas, I hope that we can all take a look and see what difference we've made in the world this year. What have YOU done?

What's your favorite Christmas song?
